Adult Workshops

Do you want to expose your children to more music? Whether you run a school, daycare center, children's museum or any other venue that values children and music we can show your staff how to engage musically with the children in your care.

Background:

Keltic Kids was invited to do workshops with adults and children at the New York Public Library. After witnessing Laura James Flynn's interaction with the children and remarking on how different it was to anything else they had ever seen they invited her to do a workshop with over 100 librarians at their 42nd Street branch.

The goal was to better equip librarians to use the music materials found in every library when leading music sessions with their young visitors. The program was a resounding success with many people saying (off-the-record, as the NYPL doesn't endorse any programs!) that it was the best professional development course they had ever taken.

The success of the program was evidenced by the second invitiation, this time to talk at the Early Childhood Resource and Information Center of the New York Public Library on Leroy Street. This program was delivered to early childhood teachers, parents, caregivers and more librarians and was met with the same level of delighted enthusiasm. Many spoke of receiving the tools and inspiration to engage musically with their charges.

Workshop:

The adult workshop includes a brief synopsis on the importance of music in early childhood development. It then moves swiftly into the fun part... where the adults play the part of small children and learn through play how to engage and interact with small children musically so that they delight in participating in a musical setting, staying engaged throughout.
